Hola, Jose, Happy 40th Year
The extended Martinez family looks back on 40 years of business in Kaimuki this month, marking it with special drink deals, a cherished salsa recipe and a new chicken dish.
Jose’s Mexican Cafe and Cantina opened Nov. 3, 1973, with the children of Ina Martinez in charge – and Mama in the kitchen cooking up her own recipes. Since then, the entire family has worked at the restaurant at one time or another.
Now sons Fred and Dick and their nephew Brian Martinez run day-to-day operations, and Brian has perfected a homemade Chicken Mole dish. His mole sauce will enhance both a enchilada or burrito special during the anniversary month.
A complimentary Cuervo Gold Upgrade comes with the discounted Strawberry Margarita Grande for November guests, who also can sample the extra heat in Grandpa’s “extra muy caliente” salsa.
The staff boasts that it has been serving three generations of families – from first-date couples, to their children and, in some cases, their grandchildren. All ages are welcome to come down to 1134 Koko Head Ave. and join the birthday party. Call 732-1833.
