Hit & Run

MOVIE REVIEW with KODEE MARTIN Cast member, Honu by the Sea
as told to Nicole Kato

Where and with whom did you see the movie?

Mililani Stadium 14 Theaters, and I saw the movie with one of my close friends, Lilia Carrillo.

Overall what did you think?

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I went in thinking that it was going to be one of those “Hangover-esque” types of comedies, but it wasn’t. The writing was very well done, and it was a very good cast.

Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes?

The burnout scene.

On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film?

★ ★ ★

What did you think of the cinematography?

I really enjoyed the cinematography in this film because there were a lot of shots that could be memorable – whether they be in the car chase, or some of the scenes with the main couple. There were some nice moments in this movie.

Was the message/theme clear?

The message was very clear, and I think very realistic to relationships today. We have to allow the past to be in the past and only look forward to what the future holds.

To whom would you recommend this movie?

I would recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a good laugh, and couples (because the main message is geared toward the main couple).

Did any of the actors stand out?

Randy Anderson (Tom Arnold) is the U.S. marshal who is to protect Yul, and brings a great comedic relief and very heartwarming feeling of a guy who has grown to care for his friendship with Yul, and would not only protect him because it’s his job, but also because he cares about him.

Did you identify with any of the characters?

Yul Perrkins (Dax Shepard), the main character, and the one who is just trying to get his point across that who he used to be is not who he is now, and he just wants Annie (Kristen Bell) to accept that.

Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film?

Not enough for me to go out and buy it.

What’s your favorite movie snack?

Hot popcorn with Snow Caps sprinkled on top.

On a different note, what’s new with you?

I am currently performing in Waikiki at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in a new musical called Honu by the Sea. It runs Wednesday and Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. until Sept. 30. There are regular show tickets and dinner packages as well, and there is a kama’aina discount. For more information, go to honubythesea.com.
