Hezekiah’s Wives Are Big Trouble In Lanikai
Greed, intrigue and polygamy meet in Nelson Shreve’s Hezekiah’s Wives or She’d Rather Be Dead Than Wed, to be staged at 8 p.m. May 18-20 and 25-27 by the Lanikai Mortgage Players.
Performances will be held in Nelson and Lucille Shreve Theater at Lanikai pavilion at the corner of Aalapapa and Kaiolena drives.
Co-directed by John Wilson and Jim Duca, the troupe’s spring melodrama features an all-star cast in the roles of Rafe Rumple, his wife Lulu and daughter Lacey, as well as villain Hezekiah Kreep and the four wives, Queenie, Bonnie, Goodie and Sally.
Fred Barnett will direct an olio (a variety show also known as “All That Jazz”) following the play, making for a non-stop evening of fun.
The late Shreves revived the Mortgage Players in the 1970s when Nelson (a prolific writer of melodramas) stepped in to write new ones, and Lucille began work as the group’s resident director.
Tickets cost $7 and there’s plenty of free popcorn.
