Help For Waikalua Fishpond
Work to restore Kaneohe’s watershed and cultural sites is never done, and it will continue with a “La Hana” from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Waikalua Loko Fishpond.
Waikalua Loko Fishpond Preservation Society has been working to preserve the fishpond since 1995, with volunteers being key to that effort. Help is needed to remove invasive limu and repair the kuapa (rock wall), as well as to set up and direct parking. Attendees also will get a light lunch and a tour of the pond.
Family, friends, school and community groups are welcome to help, but pre-registration is required to Andrea Jepson at 263-8202 or jepsona001@hawaii.rr.com. Bring old clothing and shoes, gloves, sun-screen and a reusable water bottle.
Future workdays will be April 18, June 20, Sept. 12 and Nov. 14. (La Hana means “community workday.”)
