Martin & Macarthur Unveils Wood Watches
Martin & MacArthur first introduced wood watches in 2010. Last year, the company introduced solid koa watches made from its own private stock of koa wood from the Hamakua district of the Big Island.
Other than the faces, the watches are solid exotic harwoods, including iliahi, purple heart, ebony and rosewood. The patina of the wood gets richer over the years as oils from the owner’s skin gradually condition it. All watches are water-resistant.

Hawaii Designers In ‘Si’ Swimsuit Issue
Congratulations to Hawaii-based swimsuit line Acacia for making it into the new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Designed by Naomi Newirth of Maui and Lyndie Irons, wife of the late world champion surfer Andy Irons, Acacia Swimwear is featured in the magazine on models Jessica Gomes and Bar Rafaeli. “Making Sports Illustrated was a goal of ours and we made it,” noted Newirth and Irons on their blog.
The magazine also shows a suit from Maui-based Suit Yourself Bikinis on cover model Kate Upton, as well as bikinis inside from local designers Letarte, San Lorenzo, La Vida Aloha and Maui Girl by Debbie Wilson.
