Haunted Ride Opens At PCC
Polynesian Cultural Center’s annual Haunted Lagoon rides open Friday night with a new story line, inviting canoe passengers along for a “Dreams and Nightmares” journey through park waters — and deep into the Laie Lady’s mind.
The once-beautiful Nalani, it is said, plunged into madness following the tragic death of both her husband and her son. Now as the Laie Lady, she haunts the banks of PCC’s lagoon, battling her own demons. State-of-the- art special effects, animatronics, quality costuming and makeup plus a full cast of fearsome characters lurk with her throughout the journey each night. (A milder “keiki canoes” version of the lagoon ride is offered from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for all ages.)
“Her intentions are a mystery,” admitted PCC marketing director Raymond Magalei. “Some say she is a lonely, broken mother trying to find her lost son; others have claimed she has a more sinister agenda. We welcome our guests to make their own interpretations.” Tickets cost $19.50 for adults and $14.50 for children, with some discounts available.
Rides run from Friday through Oct. 31, with double-hulled canoes departing at 6:30 p.m. four nights a week through Oct. 22, and then Monday-Saturday Oct. 22-31. For all the gory details and to make reservations, call 293-3333.
