Hauled Sand To Stem Boat Ramp’s Erosion
The Kailua Beach Park boat ramp and portions of the parking areas remain closed on weekdays, pending the completion of an emergency transfer of sand.
In a job expected to take about two weeks (from April 1), city crews are replenishing about 3,000 cubic yards of sand on the beach and the eroded area by the boat ramp. The sand is coming from Kaelepulu Stream and should help protect the ramp, which has been closed for similar repairs in the past. A transfer of about 1,500 cubic yards of sand was achieved one year ago, and the city recently cut down ironwood trees, whose roots were exposed on the shoreline by the relentless surf.
The ramp and adjacent parking lot are open on weekends for park users.
