Hard-hitting ‘Polaroid Stories’
Windward Community College’s drama students are tackling Greek gods and setting them down in today’s desolate urban landscape as drug dealers, prostitutes and homeless youths.
The college presents the Hawaii premiere of Naomi Iizuka’s play Polaroid Stories

March 21-24 at Paliku Theatre with acclaimed international stage director Taurie Kinoshita. The play is suitable for ages 17 and older for its adult language, situations and themes. A Hawaii native with degrees from UH Manoa, Kinoshita currently works as a theater lecturer at WCC, having built a reputation for gritty, dark stories through her now London-based Cruel Theatre troupe.
The play channels the transient lives of its Greek gods and heroes into outcast street kids of today.. Persephone, Orpheus, Eurydice, Ariadne, Narcissus and Zeus all get into the act. Pre-show lectures each night will examine classical mythology, substance abuse, homelessness and art censorship. A post-show talk-back with actors is set for March 22. A graffiti artist will create live art each night onstage.
