It’s Great ‘When Work Works’
By Stevette Santiago
Co-State Director, SHRM Hawaii Chapter
Since 2005, the When Work Works Award has recognized model employers of all types and sizes across the United States for their innovative and effective workplace practices. When Work Works is a national, research-based initiative that highlights how effective and flexible workplaces can yield positive business results and help employees succeed at work and at home. When Work Works is a joint partnership between Families and Work Institute (FWI) and Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

The award is the result of a rigorous assessment. Work-sites must first qualify in the top 20 percent of the country, based on a nationally representative sample of employers. Two-thirds of the evaluation of applicants comes from an employee survey.
Applicants are evaluated on six research-based ingredients of an effective workplace: opportunities for learning, a culture of trust, work-life fit, supervisor support for work success, autonomy, and satisfaction with and benefits and opportunities for advancement — all factors associated with employee health, well-being and engagement.
SHRM Hawaii is proud to be the 2014 State of Hawaii Community Partner for this initiative and is excited to announce this year’s When Work Works Award winners:
