Grand Opera Is Right Here In Kaneohe Town
Windward Arts Council will present a Grand Opera at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Episcopal Church in Kaneohe.
The annual program is free to the public and features music from Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story, as well as ballet, jazz and symphonic selections.
Tom Holowach of Windward Community College will narrate the show, which includes musicians from the Hawaii Symphony, voices from Hawaii Opera Theatre (soprano Bai He and tenor Benson Madarang) and dancers from Hawaii Ballet de Corps with choreographer Adealani Malia Wesley.
Composer-in-residence at University of Hawaii at Manoa, Donald Womack, will premier a Romeo and Juliet love duet Only A Name. The audience also will hear Les Peetz on jazz piano and renowned island jazz drummer Chuck James.
Calvary church, which has co-hosted these community outreach events for more than two decades, is located on Aumoku Street next to Windward City Shopping Center.
