Graffam To Conduct ‘Intensive’ Atelier Art Course At WCC

Windward Community College’s noted Atelier Hawaii course is seeking serious art students as it begins its 12th year of intensive study of the painting techniques honed by the European masters.

The course runs from May 28 to July 5, meeting with new director Norman Graffam from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. week-days at the Hale Palanakila art studios. The nationally recognized Graffam co-taught the course with Snowden Hodges and will be assisted this summer by Jonathan Busse.

One of the few such Classical Realism courses in the nation, Atelier Hawaii emphasizes portraiture. According to the course description, students “will draw from classical sculpture, study the human figure from live models, draw and paint from casts (to achieve) color harmony, composition, tonal values, perspective and gesture.”

Tuition is $1,200 non-credit, $1,488 for six college credits and $2,100 for non-resident credits.
