Golf Tourney Benefits Suicide Prevention
The Dayne Carvalho Memorial Suicide Awareness Golf Tournament started as a way to raise awareness about suicide prevention and education.
Now in its third year, the tournament also has plans to build a scholarship fund for Leeward coast college students enrolled in arts programs.
“Dayne grew up on the Leeward coast, and the Leeward coast is hit hard by suicide, especially … Hawaiian males,” said Dayne’s sister Jadean Carvalho. “Dayne was very artistic, so we want to award a scholarship to a part-Hawaiian Leeward student in an arts program.”
In addition to the scholarship fund, a monetary donation will be given to the Hawaii chapter of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 10 with the tournament starting at noon at Hawaii Prince Golf Course in Ewa Beach. Cost is $160 per person, and registration is required by Nov. 2 to Carvalho by email at jadeancarvalho@yahoo.com or call 255-8968.
“We are accepting golfers, prizes, sponsors, volunteers and donations to help with this worthy cause,” added Carvalho.
