Go To College For (Almost) Free

Ben Kaplan won two dozen scholarships worth $90,000 and went to Harvard University for free.

Now he’s coming to Wahiawa with a few tips. His free scholarship work- shop is set for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at Leilehua High School where he’ll share the nuts and bolts of finding and winning college grants. The author of How to Go to College Almost for Free, Kaplan also has insights on college savings and financial aid.

Advance registration is required, and people should register at events.benkaplan.com/hawai i. A similar session is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at Kaimuki High School. Additional materials are available on the website cityofcollegedreams.org.

Kaplan’s book has sold more than 500,000 copies and has spawned appearances on 2,000 TV and radio talk shows, ranging from Oprah to NPR.
