Get Your Shopping Started Early
Happy Thanksgiving! I can’t believe it is here.
With that comes the Black Friday deals. Sure there are the online deals, but you’ll probably see the deepest discounts in stores.
If you’re crazy enough to stand in line, or even just go shopping, here are some store hours/tech deals to keep in mind.
* Best Buy: Opens Thanksgiving day at 6 p.m, 55-inch LG TV for $499 – down from its current $1,100 price.
* Walmart: Opens Thanksgiving at 6 p.m., 60-inch Vizio for $688, down from the normally priced $988; Xelio 10.1-inch (Android) for $49
* Target: Opens Thanksgiving at 8 p.m., 47-inch Vizio TV, normally $579, for $379; buy two video games, get one free; iPad Air for $479 (originally $499). Online and in-store shoppers get a 20 percent gift card if they spend at least $75 between Thanksgiving and end of business Black Friday. The gift card can be used Dec. 1-7.
* Kmart: Opens Thanksgiving at 6 a.m., Samsung 32-inch LED 720p for $150 (regular price $319).
* Toys ‘R’ Us: Opens Thanksgiving at 5 p.m. (three hours earlier than last year), 7-inch Polaroid Android tablet for $50.

If you’re doing some procrastinated Thanksgiving preparations as I am, you have to download this free app. It will be a lifesaver to your food preparation fiasco. Whether you’re the main Thanksgiving chef or the assistant, or looking for a classic or a new spin, this app is filled with menus, dishes, tips, step-by-step instructions, videos and an iCal sync to allow you to prepare your purchases (obviously, if there was more time, but good to know for next year).
The recipe homepage has a matrix grid with a nice recipe photo, and the default screen is all recipes, but a one-touch sort feature in the middle allows you to search among recipes and sort through Classic, Modern, Southern and New Traditions. When you touch a recipe, you’ll see a photo, list of ingredients and a narrative description of the directions. A video tip icon sits just to the right of the directions, and a touch leads to a popup with relevant video tutorials for the recipe.
When you’re in the cooking mode, the recipe slides up from the bottom of the screen and you drag up the step-by-step directions. It appears as a recipe card, but each step is written in large font. You swipe these “cards” to see the directions. This makes it almost idiot-proof and very easy to follow.
