Food Is Focus Of North Shore Forum

Residents, farmers and sustainable food advocates will have plenty to chew on at the North Shore Food Summit, set for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at Turtle Bay Resort.

The inaugural event, coordinated by the North Shore Community Land Trust, brings together “food system partners” for a day of panels, break-out sessions, working groups, food and fellowship, all designed to lay the foundation for greater food security on the North Shore and throughout the state.

Summit sessions cover the North Shore food system, building healthier communities, landowner panels, local farmer panels, organic food cultivation, funds for farming, cultivating leaders and food action plans.

Panelists and speakers range from Gary Maunakea Forth of MA’O Farms in Waianae to Nancy Redfeather of The Kohala Center on Hawaii island. Also on the list: Kim Johnson of Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation, Doug Cole, Pamela Boyar (of the Haleiwa, Kailua, Hawaii Kai and Ala Moana Farmers Markets), Claire Sullivan of Whole Foods-Hawaii and Kalani Fronda of Kamehameha Schools.
