What is your official title/occupation? Track coordinator, Kalaeloa Raceway Park, and photographer, Street Pulse
Where and with whom did you see the movie? Kapolei 16 with my nephew Janus Gapusan.
Overall, what did you think? The movie was a fantastic popcorn experience full of exciting action sequences, humor and even a few tender scenes mixed in with the abundance of testosterone evident throughout.
Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes? Seriously, watching a tank blast down a crowded highway mauling passenger cars pretty much tops the list as my favorite scene from Fast and Furious 6.
On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film? I’d have to give it ★★★★ simply because this franchise has been around the block. The characters are endearing, likable and it always feel good to see something familiar mixed in with a ton of excitement.
What did you think of the cinematography? The cinematography for Fast and Furious 6 was fantastic in that it was a mixed bag of fast chops, slow moments and incredible set pieces. Some of the chase camera views were exceptional, and I especially liked the wide pans that showed a massive view of the action from overhead and from afar. You can tell that they really spent a lot of time on location in familiar places.
Was the message/theme clear? The Fast and the Furious has come a long way from its roots of simple street racing and crime. It’s matured into being about a primary focus, which is family. I think that’s the primary theme here … which is “never leave anyone behind.”
Did it remind you of any other work in film? I’d say that it reminds me of recent Bond films, but honestly, Fast and Furious is in a league of its own when it comes to over-the-top action sequences, fast cars and hot girls.
To whom would you recommend this movie? I’d recommend this movie to anyone interested in watching an exciting, action-packed movie sprinkled with plenty of flashy cars and attractive cast members.
Did any of the actors stand out? Vin Diesel seemed to take the majority of the spotlight, mainly because of the focus being on Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) and Dominic’s (Diesel) characters. The other actors, including Dwayne Johnson and even minor cast members such as Gal Gadot, had their moments.
Did you identify with any of the characters? Family is important, so I think I could identify with Vin Diesel’s character the most.
Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film? Believe it or not, the sound board at times seemed more important than the actual sound-track. The rush of acceleration, the engine notes, clutch-kicks, screeching tires and the roar of a tank at full blast crushing hapless vehicles is what really set the movie apart in the sound department.
Would you buy this movie when it comes out on DVD? Most definitely. Although I tend to hide original Fast and Furious in the back, I’d put this baby at the forefront of my entertainment cabinet.
What’s your favorite movie snack? You just can’t beat popcorn layered in butter with the hurricane mix. Being from Texas originally, I’m surprised to say that I like seaweed on my popcorn.
On a different note, what’s new with you? I’m always out there on the streets looking for the next great ride for Street Pulse, as well as promoting the return of racing to Oahu via Kalaeloa Raceway Park, Hawaii’s newest motorsports facility.
