Family Promise Sets Fun Run To Help The Homeless

Family Promise of Hawaii will stage a 5K Family Fun Run through Kailua at 7 a.m. Aug. 17 in support of its mission to help homeless families with children build a stable future.

FPH began here in 2005 and soon developed two interfaith networks of support, one in Windward Oahu and one in Honolulu. The congregations share shifts of hosting families with food, shelter and support, while non-host churches contribute in other ways.

Hosts on the Windward side are St. John Vianney Parish, St. John’s by the Sea, Kailua Christian, Kailua Seventh-Day Adventist, St. Christopher’s Episcopal, Christ Church Uniting, St. John and St. Mark Lutheran churches, and Parker and Kailua United Methodist churches.

Contributing local groups include Windward Christian, Kahaluu and Keolumana United Methodist churches, Windward Unity, St. George and St. Ann’s Catholic churches, Kailua Shambhala Meditation Center, Emmanuel Episcopal, New Hope Kailua and Kailua Hongwanji Mission.

The deadline for ordering T-shirts has passed, but supporters may still register online at active.com/familypromise.

Fee is $30 for adults and $10 for children age 12 and younger.

The race begins at Kailua District Park, and packet pickup is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 16 at the FPH Windward Center at St. Christopher’s, 69 N. Kainalu Drive. For more information, call 262-7478.
