Families, Friends Gather For Bon Dance At Waipahu Temple
The summer Bon dance season continued with the celebration by Waipahu Soto Zen Temple Taiyoji Aug. 3 and 4.
The popular event attracted attendees from all over the island for dancing and entertainment, which included traditional Okinawan music.
According to Japanese Buddhist tradition, o-bon festivals honor the spirits of family members who have passed away. The ceremonies typically are held from June through August each year.
There are a few more bon dances coming up this month. For upcoming festivals at West Oahu churches and temples, check out our Highlights calendar.
