Downtown Fashion Bash To Aid Community Helping Schools
Community Helping Schools normally handles donated fans, crayons and other badly needed classroom-related supplies. But from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 13, supporting public school classrooms takes on a whole new style.
CHS will hit Waterfront Plaza’s M Nightclub for Valerie Joseph Boutique’s seventh annual FRESH Fashion Benefit, “Dancing for the Future.”
Sponsored by Cades Schutte LLP, the evening offers a fashion show with models styled in everything from “trash bags to ribbons to jewels,” with entertainment by D’Manti and Sunway. Tickets cost $20 presale, $25 at the door and include access to a dessert bar and silent auction.
The Windward-based nonprofit CHS will receive all proceeds from the event.
Founded in 2000 by Kailua resident Kathie Wells, CHS began as a hub for area teachers to share their wish lists for classroom supplies. Residents and businesses can peruse the list at communityhelpingschools.org and find out where and what they can give, with CHS facilitating the transaction.
While the program has expanded across the island, it continues to focus on Windward schools, which make up the lion’s share of the 147 pages of requests on the website.
The fundraiser is expected to raise $15,000 from 500 attendees. Organizers also seek silent auction items, including gift cards.
Tickets can be purchased by calling Rosey Potts at 780-3254, in person at Valerie Joseph Boutique at Ala Moana Center or by visiting eventbrite.com (search Dancing for the Future).
