Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days
MOVIE REVIEW with AUGIE TULBA
Vice president of Hawaii Alarm
as told to Nicole Kato
Where and with whom did you see the movie?
At Kapolei with my daughter Mahea and wife Kim.
Overall what did you think?
Great family movie – we laughed a lot together. It was funny because their family is just like our family. It was like watching a reflection of our family – adult kids laying around, sleeping all day and not having jobs; younger ones playing video games and not wanting to go outside.
Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes?
They played a game called “Tell Me Why You Love Me.” It was funny because we would never play that game. We would play “I Hate You Because.”
On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film?
Three stars.
Was the message/theme clear?
Yes, according to my daughter, it’s OK to make mistakes just as long you take responsibility and learn from it. It had a great message about taking responsibility and not lying. You can learn a lot from your mistakes.
To whom would you recommend this movie?
Because my daughter really enjoyed it, I’d say all families.
Did any of the actors stand out?
“Wimpy Kid” Greg Heffley.
Did you identify with any of the characters?
Not for me, but the main character loved playing video games like most kids, including my daughter – she related well.
Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film?
My daughter was singing all the songs, so I have to say yes. I listen to talk radio.
Would you buy this movie when it comes out on DVD?
Yes.
What’s your favorite movie snack?
Popcorn with mochi crunch.
On a different note, what’s new with you?
I’m currently on tour with Frank De Lima, Andy Bumatai and Mel Cabang working on a brand-new reality TV show called Funny Business and trying to be a great husband. And my daughter recently won two national pageants in Los Angeles and Florida, Miss Pre-Teen Beauty of the Nation and Miss Pre-Teen Royal Galaxy.
