‘Deuce’ Will Open Series of Readings
Tennis will be in the dramatic spotlight next week at Pohai Nani as Windward Readers Theatre returns for its second season of free community shows.
Performances of Deuce are set for 7 p.m. Nov. 5 and 7, and 2 p.m. Nov. 10 in the second-floor club room at the Kaneohe retirement facility. Donations will help pay royalty costs.
Deuce by Terrence Mc-Nally stars Peggy Anne Siegmund and Cecilia Fordham as retired tennis partners who reminisce on their careers and the state of the sport during one final encounter at the U.S. Open. Kelly Short and Ryan Becker are in supporting roles. (Angela Lans-bury and Marian Seldes starred in the original production.)
Local director Vanita Rae Smith intends to bring three more plays to life as part of the series.
Here’s the schedule:
* Ladies at the Alamo by Paul Zindel Jan. 7, 9 and 12, starring local theater veterans Jo Pruden, Cecilia Fordham, Shari Lynn, Kathe James and Sylvia Hormann Alper.
* The Cemetery Club by Ivan Menchell March 4, 6 and 9.
* Talley’s Folly by Lanford Wilson June 3, 5 and 8.
Initiated last year by Windward Arts Council, the 2013-2014 season is sponsored by Hui o Pohai Nani. For reservations (open seating) or more information, call Jane Campbell at 254-4885.
