Concert Offers Passion And ‘Delicate Beauty’

Chamber Music Hawaii’s Spring Wind Quartet performs pieces by Daniel Baldwin, David Maslanka and Paul Taffanel, along with two of J.S. Bach’s organ preludes at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 at UH West Oahu’s library.

Chamber Music Hawaii bassoonist Marsha Schweitzer arranged the pieces specifically for the quartet.

Maslanka is considered one of the nation’s most highly regarded composers and, according to CMH, his wind ensemble music possesses a delicate beauty. Taffanel’s works date back to 1876 and express an exaltation for life.

Chamber Music Hawaii commissioned Baldwin’s passionate “Dreams of the White Tiger.”

Prior to the concert, the musicians and UH West Oahu professor Jon Magnussen will offer a free preview of CMH’s spring concerts. Live and recorded musical selections will be provided.

For more information, email general manager Stephen Strugnell at info@chambermusichawaii.org.

Tickets for the concert cost $25, and students will be admitted free with valid ID.
