Classes Teach DIY Decorations
This holiday season, learn to create centerpieces and other decor with “un-thirsty” plants, right here in West Oahu.
The Board of Water Supply and the Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden host a succulent holiday decor workshop from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the garden’s Green Lanai.
Learn about how these drought-tolerant plants are clipped for planting, how to care for succulents, how to maintain living centerpieces to last through the holidays and more. All participants should bring two small wire wreath forms.
Other optional materials to bring include a column candle, ribbon and other holiday decor to include with your creation.
The workshop fee is $10 and includes instruction and guidance, moss, florist wire and planting media. For Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden members, fee is $5. Advanced registration for the course is required and closes at 2 p.m.

For more ways to create a little homemade holiday cheer, Malama Learning Center hosts a Natural Holiday Decorations workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at ‘Ilima at Leihano in Kapolei. Through a hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to create decorations from green waste and other natural materials.
Materials will be provided, but attendees also should bring additional decorations and glue guns. Fee is $15 per person, or $40 for families of up to three people.
