Class Helps Conserve Water
With rainy winter days on the way, now is the perfect time to take advantage of the Board of Water Supply’s Rain Barrel Catchment workshop.
The next one is from 10:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 16 at Halawa Xeriscape Garden.
According to BWS, 50 percent of water consumption in the average single-family home is used outdoors – for gardening, watering plants, washing cars, etc. Covering the basics on how to construct, install and maintain a rain water catchment system, the workshop aims to help participants reduce their use of potable water for non-potable activities.
A $35 fee includes the lecture and one pre-drilled 55-gallon water catchment barrel; there is a $5 fee for those who want to participate in the lecture only. A discount is available for Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden members.
Participants must register by Nov. 8 by calling 748-5363 or emailing workshops@hbws.org. For more information, visit boardofwatersupply.com.
Halawa Xeriscape Garden is located at 99-1268 Iwaena St. in Halawa Valley’s Central Park Industrial Area.
