Chinese ‘Snake’ At Area Shops
East Oahu is prepared to welcome the Year of the Snake, which officially arrives on Feb. 10 — the second new moon after the winter solstice.
Kahala Mall launched festivities Feb. 3 with appear- ances by the Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association and Miss Chinatown. Market City Shopping Center plans its celebration at 10 a.m.
Feb. 16 with taiko drums, firecrackers and lion dances by the Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association (734- 0282).
The award-winning Wah Ngai troupe also will highlight the Chinese New Year party set for 10 a.m. Feb. 17 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center, where kung fu demonstrations and more lion dancing are anticipated on the waterfront stage and throughout the complex. Families are invited to bring li see (lucky money in red paper) to give to the colorful lions.
