Central Video Teams Vying For ‘Olelo Prize
Video production teams from Central Oahu schools are looking good for the 2014 statewide ‘Olelo Youth Xchange Student Video Competition, with nine of their entries selected as finalists.
The awards banquet May 5 at Ko Olina resort will present high-definition Sony digital video cameras to the winners in each of 37 categories. Organizers say that submissions this year have jumped 22 percent.
The ceremony itself will be shown in live cablecast from the Ihilani resort, where award-winning adult director Tim Savage will give the keynote address to tomorrow’s filmmakers. Savage currently is directing Under the Blood Red Sun in Hawaii.
Here’s the lineup of Central finalists, selected in categories at each school level by judges who viewed their entries:

* Mini Documentary – What Most Schools DON’T Teach by Hale Kula Elementary, Hokulea: A Boy’s Journey to Hawaiian Pride by Kahuku High
* Peacemaker – Be There in Time by Mililani High
* Public Service Announcement – Be Cool, Come to School by Hale Kula Elementary
* Saving H2Outdoors – A Change Today Makes a Difference Tomorrow by Leilehua High
* Start Living Healthy – Choose Water for a Healthy Life by Hale Kula, The Interrogation by Leilehua, Water’s Legit by Leilehua.
