Where and with whom did you see the movie?
My wife Dena and I went to see the movie on a Tuesday evening at Ward Theaters.
Did you enjoy the movie?
Yes, the movie was exceptional! I knew I was going to enjoy it because it was a Marvel production, but I must admit I was initially apprehensive to the idea of a Captain America sequel. That being said, I was truly impressed with the story and its ability to tie together all of the characters into the future Marvel films. It kept me guessing for the whole two hours and 10 minutes that it ran!
Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes?
I’m a big fan of Samuel L. Jackson, and there was an intense scene involving an incredible car chase – tons of action and technology, with laughter and some great Nick Fury one-liners.
On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film?
★★★ 1/2.
What did you think of the cinematography?
The cinematography was incredible! Expect incredible CGI and special effects throughout the entire film – one scene, where Captain America runs through an entire ship from front to back, was one of the most memorable shots in the movie. We chose not to see the movie in 3-D, but I can only imagine how all of the explosions would look with shrapnel flying through the air at you!
Was the message/theme clear?
Certainly. I loved how they worked today’s current events into the storyline. They approached certain sensitive subject matter with tact and creativity; it really made you think about privacy, transparency and how technology is shaping our global society. The movie was also a genuine salute to the bravery of our country’s servicemen and women.
Did it remind you of any other works of film?
The movie had a James Bond feel to it overall, like a throwback to espionage thrillers of the ’60s and ’70s in modern times.
To whom would you recommend this movie?
Any diehard Marvel fans and those who enjoy action-packed adventure films. It was family friendly, but I wouldn’t recommend bringing kids under the age of 10 – there was a good amount of violence and graphic scenes.
Did any of the actors stand out?
Chris Evans was the obvious standout being Captain America, but I have to say I liked the actor who was the villain – not to spoil anything, but a familiar face plays the role of Captain America’s nemesis in this chapter.
Did you identify with any of the characters?
Being a World War II historical tour guide, I certainly feel a sense of patriotism and pride in my country similar to Captain America. Although I could never beat the guy in a race, I truly feel like we shared some of the same character attributes and moral decision-making that occurred throughout the film.
Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film?
The movie’s music had a very patriotic feel, with exhilarating orchestra scores accompanying the action-packed scenes. There is a great song by Marvin Gaye that is featured, as well.
What’s your favorite movie snack?
A large strawberry ICEE – the perfect amount of sugar for a buzz to power you through a film. I do wish they still had the Cinnabon Pretzels like they did back in the day though!
