Business Leaders On The Move In Hawaii – 11/13/13
Kanani Makaimoku has joined Sterling & Tucker LLP as an associate attorney. Her compassion for people fits well with the customer-service philosophy Sterling & Tucker embraces. Makaimoku formerly served as legal counsel at the Domestic Violence Action Center for seven years.
Dean Nakasone has been named general manager of Outrigger Reef on the Beach. He will oversee the resort’s day-to-day operations and staff management, and plan, organize and direct all hotel services; and ensure balance among customer satisfaction, effective business management and financial viability for the property. Nakasone has an extensive background in hotel management with Outrigger Hotels and Resorts. He joins Outrigger Reef on the Beach from his most recent position as general manager of Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber Resort, an Outrigger-managed property.
Theresa Spottswood has been appointed to the newly created position of vice president and director, internal audit and risk management with Servco Pacific Inc. (Servco). She will be responsible for managing enterprise risk for all of Servco’s global operations. Most recently, Spottswood served as internal audit director for Hawaiian Electric Industries.
Alison Whiting has been named director of Student Leadership, Activities and Service at BYU- Hawaii. In her new position, she oversees student association leadership, service/learning efforts and student clubs. Whiting has been involved with student leadership in various management and mentorship positions for 20 years. She coordinated student programs for 3,500 students at Maricopa Community Colleges in Arizona and was responsible for helping Chandler-Gilbert Community College at Maricopa receive the two highest national awards for service and engagement.
Mark Morikawa has been promoted to facility manager with Hawaii Convention Center. In his new role, Morikawa is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations in the facility department, including managing personnel and scheduling labor, forecasting budget, and maintaining inventory, equipment and storage. Prior to joining the Hawaii Convention Center facility team, Morikawa worked as a project manager in Honolulu.
