Benefit Aug. 17 At Manawale‘a

Manawale’a Riding Center will present its fundraiser, “Where the Magic Starts,” from noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at 41-170A Waikupanaha St. in Waimanalo.

The 12th annual event offers a country store, snack shop, silent auction, local food favorites, keiki activities, entertainment and free horseback riding (from 1 to 3 p.m.) for children ages 2 to 12. A donation of $8 gets you into the food booths, which will be open from noon to 5 p.m.

The professional horse-manship group promotes “equine-assisted” activities for people with disabilities via therapeutic horsemanship, in an effort to help clients improve their mental, social and physical skills. The riding center also has opened a new program to work with Wounded Warriors and will need to purchase larger saddles and adaptive equipment.
