Banking On A Strong Community
BRYAN LUKE
President and CEO of Hawai‘i National Bank
When my grandfather, K.J. Luke, was born in North Kohala, he was the youngest of 13 children in an immigrant family. He was raised working in his family’s general store before attending school in Honolulu and eventually founding Hawai‘i National Bank in 1960.
His entrepreneurial spirit still guides the way we do business as a third-generation family bank. With branches in O‘ahu, as well as on Maui and in Hilo, our focus is on the businesses and families in the communities we serve. We know firsthand what it takes to be a local family business, and we are excited to highlight the hard work of Hawai‘i’s entrepreneurs.
This includes companies like Island Topsoil, with roots dating back more than three decades. David E. Souza’s father started the business in Kamuela with a single truck, and it is now a leader in Hawai‘i’s bulk soil industry, headquartered in Wai‘anae, O‘ahu.
“We want to be here for the long run,” Souza says. “It’s a family-owned business. When I say family, it’s not just my personal family, it’s my whole staff. They’re all a family.”
Souza is just one of the profiles featured on our dedicated website for entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs.hawaiinational.com, which offers insights from the leaders behind Hawai‘i’s favorite locally owned businesses. Constantly adapting and innovating, these entrepreneurs are the backbone of our communities.
At Hawai‘i National Bank, we strive to provide the best banking tools and experience to help our customers thrive. This includes a variety of business and consumer services, as well as features our customers love to use every day, like 24/7 online and mobile banking. Plus, we’re among a select number of Small Business Administration Preferred Lenders, which allows us to streamline and expedite the SBA lending process right here at home.
We are also dedicated to helping our communities this holiday season. Join us through Dec. 30 for our holiday book drive in support of the Hawai‘i Literacy. Simply drop off a new children’s book at any Hawai‘i National Bank branch location to enhance literacy programs throughout the state.
