Bands Vying For Best At Koko Marina

YouTube might well be the catalyst for a new generation of young musicians.

No wonder that the video site served as preliminary host for Koko Marina Center’s Band Challenge and Soloist Singing Contest, which will hold its live final round from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at the marina courtyard, hosted by local media personality Kutmaster Spaz.

Only open to bands or solo singers between ages 13 and 18, the contest’s first round was decided via applicants submitting YouTube videos of a live performance or practice session.

Finalists will be notified by Sept. 6. The finale concert is free to the public, and winners will share in $3,000 in cash and other prizes.
