Anti-Bullying Training Sept. 6

Mental Health America of Hawaii will conduct an all-day workshop for adults on “Stop Youth Suicide and Bullying” Sept. 6 at the Windward school district office at King Intermediate School.

The “training for trainers” workshop will be led by veteran social worker Antonio Alvarez, who has spearheaded similar programs for more than 11,000 people since 2008. Service providers, teachers and community youth leaders are invited to sign up for the experiential workshop, which uses interaction, role playing, videos and local case studies to prepare participants to increase resilience in vulnerable youths.

They also will practice the Ho’olohe Pono bullying curriculum developed by MHA and learn how to conduct 90-minute workshops for the most-targeted age group, intermediate through college age. (Trainees must do three such workshops to maintain certification.)
