Allison Izu
Allison Izu, known for its premium denim pants, skirts and shorts designed for petite women, has expanded its line to offer a great assortment of casual tops as well.
Founded by local girl Allison Izu Song (Izu is her middle name) in 2007, the clothing company caters to women 5-foot-6 and shorter, and offers a full size run from size 000 to size 14, and two custom inseams – 27-inch and 31-inch. In addition to its premium denim collection, Song has added other fabrications and styles, including black bottoms and maternity denim.
“I have always loved fashion,” says Song, 35. “I went to UH and took one fashion class and fell in love with draping. I knew it was my destiny. So, I decided to move away to New York City and pursue my dream of becoming a designer, and being petite at 5-foot-2, I knew there was a void in the fashion industry for clothing that fit petite women and flattered their body. I wanted to create a clothing line for me, by me.”
Song, who also is a mom to 2-year-old Olive and 2-month-old Owen, hopes to soon create a line for men and children. “We are working on creating more pieces that are affordable but keep with our love of high-quality fabrics and construction,” she says. “We are now 100 percent made in Hawaii, too.”
