All Things Music On The West Side
It’s been said that music is food for the soul, and Westside Music is a place to create a lifetime of perfect melodies and harmonies. Located in the heart of Waipahu, Westside Music is owned and operated by Ron Ravelo, who’s worked in the music industry for the past 24 years.
“Music has always been my passion,” he says. “I love the music industry and its community. Music is and always will be my way of life
In addition to his shop, Ravelo performs, writes and records music, and teaches lessons in ukulele, guitar and bass.
“I suppose I’ve always wanted to have my own music store,” recalls Ravelo, who opened the doors to the establishment in July 2011. “It’s been about a year-and-a-half now, and I am truly blessed and thankful that I was able to make this happen.”
Westside Music carries a large assortment of musical accessories, as well as used instruments and gear, including guitars, keyboards and sound systems. As a consignment store, Ravelo says Westside Music LL buys and sells items on a daily basis.
“I have a very simple and old-fashioned concept: ‘Treat people the same way you want to be treated.’ I greet all customers and service them,” explains Ravelo, who previously worked at Easy Music Center and ran his own recording studio. “I also check resources for customers who need a particular item that I don’t carry in my store. If I’m not able to bring in the item(s), then I will willingly refer them to other establishments.”
Ravelo is the sole proprietor of Westside Music, but is fortunate to have a handful of knowledgeable musician friends who help out on a daily basis.
“I have many resources in the music industry, and I will cater to any customer who needs assistance. What makes my business unique is that we cater to the used-gear market,” he notes.
With a new year right around the corner, Ravelo hopes to make Westside Music the most coveted music store on the Leeward side, and perhaps move into a larger space. As for his personal goals, Ravelo’s desire is to dive back in to studio recording.
His advice for up-and-coming entrepreneurs? Passion is key.
“If your heart is pounding when you think of an idea, chances are you’re probably in line with your creative thoughts. I suggest work out the finances and if everything is sound, go for it. Your heart will always lead you in the right direction.”
