Alaloa Plan: From Tots To Seniors
Landlord Kamehameha Schools is hoping to turn a Kaneohe parking lot into housing for seniors, according to a zone-change request to the city.
The request – to change the zoning from B-2 (Community Business District) to A-2 (Medium-Density Apartment District) deals with the corner portion of land the estate owns on Alaloa Street behind Windward Mall.
The site recently supported a KS temporary preschool and is adjacent to Haiku Road and Heeia Elementary School. (The preschool’s portable buildings and fence were removed a few weeks ago.)
The change would allow the property owner to develop senior assisted-living rental housing in a four-story, 146-bed facility operated by The Plaza at Kaneohe, according to Pacific Business News.
The application is open to public review at the city Department of Planning and Permitting at 650 S. King St. To offer comments or obtain more information, call Tim Streitz at 768-8042 and refer to project file No. 2013/Z-9.
