Accolades Roll In For Central Oahu Prep Baseball Players
Waialua High first baseman Justin Tantog has been selected as a First Team All-Star in the OIA White Conference, the league announced recently.
A senior, Tantog was a catalyst for the Bulldogs in their breakthrough 2012 season this spring. The team finished 8-8 overall and advanced to the OIA DII title game, where it was defeated 11-10 by eventual DII state champion Waipahu. With its OIA Tournament run, Waialua also secured one of the league’s berths for the DII state tournament. (It came the closest among its OIA DII counterparts to defeating Waipahu, dropping the regular-season game 6-4 in addition to the riveting title game).
Fellow Bulldog Mykal Guigui also was named to the Second Team as a third baseman. Receiving Honorable Mention were Robert Ladia, Kekai Rivera-Albeso, Taleon Lele, Christopher Gervacio, Shannon Fisher-Larue, James Onizuka and Hunter Quilinderino.
In Division I, Larry Paas was selected as a First Team pitcher from Leilehua, which went 5-8 overall this spring. A senior, Paas also played first base and outfield. The Mules also placed senior shortstop Aaron Taoy on the OIA White’s Second Team.
Ian Kaopua, Cody Academia, John Baptista, Darian Ah Quinn, Aaron Higa, Albert Talaroc, Bronson Ancheta-Maeda, Josh Loreno and Kenan Sadanaga were named to Honorable Mention from Leilehua.
Mililani outfielder Ekolu Ramos made the Second Team as an outfielder. The Trojans, who finished 6-7 this spring, also boasted Honorable Mentions in Jamesson Madrid, Javen Sakauye, Shanztyn Agbayani-Shibao, Justin Revilla, Chad Uyehara, Kanoa Hironaka and
Trevor Inouye.
