Academy’s Youngest Help Raise Money For Children In Need
During its annual Trikea-thon last month, Island Pacific Academy’s junior kindergarten class rode tri-cycles, bicycles and scooters around the block of their Kapolei campus to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Leading up to the campaign, the keiki collected $4,009.50 in pledges.

“Two of our school’s founding values are ‘the power of human kindness’ and ‘generosity of spirit,'” explained head of school Benjamin Feinstein. “Community service is practically our middle name.
“The annual Trike‐a‐thon introduces our youngest students to doing good for the greater community and teaches them that every person, even people as young as themselves, can make a difference in the world.” The event also helped the keiki learn bike safety skills as they pedaled along.
To support the kindergarteners, all of the Island Pacific Academy ohana, from students and teachers to staff, cheered them on throughout the course. Plus, each rider was “adopted” by a group of high schoolers, who made signs for the children.
“By inviting the entire school to share in this activity, we involved our whole community and strengthened relationships across the grades,” said secondary principal Kip Cummings. “It was a direct reflection of our new mantra this year of ‘One Community, One Commitment.’ Everyone was very excited for the JK students. There were lots of smiles all around.”
