A Range Of New Businesses Are Now Open In West Oahu
Spring brought a flurry of new business activity to West Oahu. The businesses are all prepared with their own designs and various retail sectors, so people really are spoilt for choice. They are also ready with pos stands for safe money transactions and as much stock as they could supply for busy sale days. From sushi and coffee, to hair and makeup or medical lab services, these merchants have now opened their doors:
Pray Eat Love Cafe.
A Air Force nurse at Hickam, Brian Smith always dreamed of opening a coffee shop. In February, he saw his dream materialize in the form of Pray Eat Love Cafe in Kapolei (533 Manawai St., #304). The “pray” part of the equation comes from Bible studies that the cafe occasionally hosts, and the “eat” part comes from breakfast items and homemade sandwiches tit serves.
As for “love,” the cafe prides itself on being a gathering place for groups, teens and members of D.R. Horton’s Mehana neighborhood, where it fits right into the live-work environment. Hours are 6 to 8 a.m. and 11 to 5 p.m. For more information, call 674-8777 or visit pelcafe.com.
Sushi Bay. Lance Yamamoto, who has more than a decade of experience at Hawaii’s top sushi restaurants, is pumping new life into Sushi Bay at Kapolei Shopping Center (590 Farrington Hwy). The kaiten, or conveyor belt, sushi shop first opened in 2011, but closed at the beginning of this year.
After serving as vice president of Hawaii operations at Genki Sushi for 11 years, and as co-owner and president at Oahu’s two Kuru Kuru Sushi locations (Aiea and Kahala) where he remains a partner, Yamamoto decided to bring his talent for working up people’s sushi appetites to Kapolei. My Hair Studio. Three sisters from Waianae combined their years of experience in cosmetology and business management to open My Hair Studio (87-1988 Pakeke St.) at the commercial center in D.R. Horton-Schuler Division’s planned neighborhood community, Sea Country, in Maili. The studio, owned by Yolanda Campos, Lorna Okabe and Ann Salazar, opened last month and provides a full menu of hair, nail and makeup services. Diagnostic Laboratory Services. Diagnostic Laboratory Services, which boasts more than 50 satellite facilities in the state, just opened a new location last month at Queen’s West Physicians Office Building (91-2139 Fort Weaver Road, #104).
The lab opens early for the convenience of commuters who can stop in to have blood drawn or provide a specimen before heading to work.
Hours are from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Diagnostic Laboratory Services also will offer its services at the Queen’s Medical Center West Oahu when it opens next year. For more information, call 485-6532.
