Unique Serpents Lurk In Ho‘omaluhia Garden Gallery Exhibit
Kailua artist Warren Stenberg is the self-described instigator of the upcoming “Dragons in the Garden” exhibit at Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden. He helped round up his various artist friends to showcase their work from July 2 to 30 at the park gallery, with a reception from 4 to 5:30 p.m. July 7.
Since 2012 is the Chinese year of the dragon, Stenberg thought it fitting to include the mythical creature in artform as a symbolic expression to our local art community and fan base. “It is just an opportunity to approach something which is not human,” he said. “Everybody has their own interpretation of what a dragon should be. My dragon isn’t a Chinese or Japanese dragon, but a Warren Stenberg dragon.”
Other works featured are from Char Hughes, who is best-known for her quilt art; Mary Flynn and Dan Van Zyle, who focuses most of his work on wildlife.
The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day at the end of Luluku Road.
Stenberg’s art has been featured in films and TV shows, such as The Descendants and Hawaii Five-0.
