What To Expect, Must-see Games For West Teams In Fall
For Aiea, Campbell, Kapolei and Waipahu, the 2012 season started recently with two weeks of spring practices. Next up, they’ll participate in 7-on-7 passing leagues until fall camp in July. Here is a breakdown of West schools’ slate. (Division II Pearl City’s schedule will come later.)
Aiea High Na ‘Ali’i
2011 record: 4-6 overall, 2-4 in OIA Red West
2012 schedule: at Castle (Aug. 17-18), at Campbell (Aug. 24-25), open date (Aug. 31-Sept. 1), at Leilehua (Sept. 7-8), Waipahu (Sept. 14-15), at Waianae (Sept. 21-22), Mililani (Sept. 28-29), Kapolei (Oct. 5-6)
Breakdown: Aiea has one of the more interesting schedules in the state with three straight road games to start with, and then three of their last four games at home. The final two weeks will see it host Mililani and Kapolei, in what figure to be pivotal games for the league’s playoffs.
Key stretch: at Waianae, Mililani, Kapolei
Must-see game: Campbell Must-see game II: Kapolei Game to be on upset-alert for: Waipahu
Campbell High Sabers
2011 record: 8-3 overall, 5-1 in OIA Red West
2012 schedule: at Kailua (Aug. 17-18), Aiea (Aug. 24-25), at Waipahu (Aug. 31-Sept. 1), Mililani (Sept. 7-8), at Waianae (Sept. 14-15), Leilehua (Sept. 21-22), at Kapolei (Sept. 28-29), open date (Oct. 5-6) Breakdown: Road trips to Waianae and Kapolei in week seven will factor big into determining the fate of Campbell’s season. The Sabers’ bye week comes at the end, giving them an extra week to prepare for the OIA playoffs.
Key stretch: at Waianae, Leilehua, at Kapolei

Kapolei Hurricanes
2011 Record: 3-6 overall, 2-4 in OIA Red West
2012 schedule: McKinley (site to be determined, Aug. 17-18), at Waipahu (Aug. 24-25), Waianae (Aug. 31-Sept. 1), open date (Sept. 7-8), Leilehua (Sept. 14-15), at Mililani (Sept. 21-22), Campbell (Sept. 28-29), at Aiea (Oct. 5-6) Breakdown: Road games at Mililani and Aiea on the back end of the slate – sandwiched around the contest with rival Campbell – should figure big in the fate of Kapolei’s season. The bye week is nicely situated at the mid-point of the season – and prior to a much-anticipated home date with Leilehua.

Waipahu Marauders
2011 Record: 9-4 overall, 6-2 in OIA White
2012 schedule: Iolani (Aug. 17-18), Kapolei (Aug. 24-25), Campbell (Aug. 31-Sept. 1), Waianae (Sept. 7-8), at Aiea (Sept. 14-15), open date (Sept. 21-22), at Leilehua (Sept. 28-29), Mililani (Oct. 5-6)
Breakdown: Waipahu will have plenty of opportunities to make an early statement in its new division during the first month with consecutive home games versus Iolani, Kapolei, Campbell and Waianae. Not until Sept. 15 will the Marauders finally hit the road.
Key stretch: Kapolei, Campbell, Waianae
