A Brotherly Approach To Mufflers
If Dad is big on cars and auto mechanics, he may appreciate something special this Father’s Day from Exhaust Systems Hawaii, a one-stop shop for your exhaust and muffler needs.
Owned and operated by brothers Robert and Roland Guieb, Exhaust Systems Hawaii first opened for business in 1985 in Waipahu, then expanded to a second Honolulu location in 1989, and finally opened the doors to its most recent location in Kailua in 1991.
“Being in business for more than 25 years and being locally owned, we have built a reputation for being Hawaii’s only exhaust/muffler specialist. We specialize in mufflers and exhaust only, nothing else,” Roland says.
Exhaust Systems Hawaii sells and installs anything from a regular stock/factory muffler for a daily driver or a free-flowing performance muffler for a sport compact, street rod, 4×4, sport truck or SUV.
The company is the largest Flowmaster Muffler and Borla Exhaust distributor in the state, and also offers other brands, including Walker mufflers, Pro-line mufflers, Bassanni, Apexi, Greddy, HKS, 5Zigen and more.
Hawaii Exhaust Systems stocks what’s believed to be the largest inventory of chrome, stainless and new black chrome tailpipe extensions, as well.
“We offer prefabricated factory replacement exhaust products for most vehicles,” Roland adds. “Custom fabricating exhaust and tailpipes is our specialty. Pipes up to 6-inch diameter are what bring buses, boats, fire trucks and industrial equipment to our shops. Catalytic converters and oxygen sensors are important components in an exhaust system for pollution control and the environment. We service all makes and models.”
According to Roland, the average cost of an exhaust system is usually close to $395, based on what components are replaced. However, the company does offer free exhaust inspections.
“We provide expert advice, unmatched workmanship, competitive prices, and fast and friendly service. My business philosophy is to treat customers the way you want to be treated, and the customer is king,” he says, noting, “Customer service is what makes or breaks a business.”
With 10 employees currently on staff, Robert and Roland are constantly working toward achieving their future goals, which means hopefully opening up a fourth location in Kalihi. Although, Roland says, recession has slowed the progress.
“Rising costs for employee health benefits, taxes, lease rent and inventory are some of the challenges in running our business,” he notes. “Yet, being able to offer a service to people in need, getting a smile back and receiving compliments from them about how happy they are about coming to our shop is what I live for … getting a referral from someone who had the ‘total exhaust experience’ at our shops. What a rewarding feeling!”
