Kalaheo Paddlers Sweep It Up

Kalaheo High School won the varsity boys, girls and mixed divisions at the OIA state paddling championships Jan. 28. Kalaheo varsity paddlers also won the Par Energy Cup for cumulative points over the entire 2016-2017 OIA regatta season.

Two generations of The Alii’s gathered together again on one stage for a once-ina-lifetime reunion and concert Jan. 15 at Long Beach Scottish Rite Event Center — all nine original band members, including (front, from left) Al Akana, Bobby King, Rudy Aquino, Ben Chong, Joe Mundo, (back) Nathan Aweau, Carlos Barboza, Thyra Abraham (promoter), Danny Couch and Manny Lagod.
