Church Honors Holmes Scholars

Windward United Church of Christ will honor its 2012 Holmes Fund scholars Sunday during the 9 a.m. worship service at 38 Kaneohe Bay Drive.

Now in its 42nd year, the Holmes Memorial program also honors the church’s late pastor, the Rev. Jerome Holmes and his wife, Eva. Holmes especially enjoyed working with young people, and the fund has followed through by giving out more than 80 college scholarships to area students since 1970.

This year’s awardees are Kalaheo High’s Sam Bell, Kailua High’s Malia Galindo, Castle High’s Rebecca Weible, Kailua Christian Academy’s Kainani Derrickson, Punahou’s Diane Galluzzi, Iolani’s Ross Villiger and Farrington High’s Tavale Masalosalo.

Vai Ole Ola O Kailua’s Samoan Choir will sing at the service, which will be followed by a luncheon. Everyone is welcome.
