He made a stop in Toronto last week to train, though he already plays center and winger.Good luck, Jeremy! … Henry Ishida, 94 (Waialua 1939), received France’s Legion of Honor medal last Saturday, along with fellow Hawaii 442nd veteran Sueo Fujii, and John Anusewicz of the 492nd Fighter Squadron, for helping liberate that country during World War II. Ishida’s unit also freed Jewish prisoners from Dachau concentration camp … There’s a new garden in front of Waialua Elementary School, which came about through a partnership with Monsanto Haleiwa. The seed company’s operations manager Caleb Dohrman says employees (many are alumni of the school, as are their kids) helped dig up the ground and plant four varieties of plants to match the area’s ethnic mix — Hawaiian, Philippines, Japanese and European. “We were happy to lend a hand to help the garden reflect that diversity,” he said in the company’s May newsletter. Added the Sweet Springs, Mo., native: “Haleiwa brings me back to my roots of a small town within an ag community” … Former Red Raider Sam Campos shares tips on creating superheroes at 5:30 p.m. June 9 at Kahuku Library.
