San Andreas
Movie review with Justin Cruz as told to Nicole Kato
Where did you see the movie?
I saw the movie at Ward Consolidated Theaters.
Overall what did you think?
San Andreas lived up to the hype of a summer blockbuster movie. The special effects were fantastic and realistic, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson doesn’t disappoint. This movie is a great pick for fans of The Rock, as well as those who love action movies.
Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes?
There is a very exciting opening scene that sets the tone of the movie.
On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film?
Although I really liked the movie, I can’t give it more than ★ ★ . Don’t get me wrong, this is an action-packed movie, but I did not leave the theater any more impressed than when I first walked in.
The movie delivered to my expectations, but it was not overly impressive, with the exception of the phenomenal graphics.
What did you think of the cinematography?
I saw this in 3-D, and thought the camera angles and perspectives were top notch. Although I don’t really think watching in 3-D would be much different from the regular format.
Was the message/theme clear?
Yes, it was very clear that cities would be destroyed and The Rock would be a hero. No questions there!
Did it remind you of any other works of film?
It reminded me of a cross among 2012, Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day.
Who would you recommend this movie to?
To enjoy this movie, you would need to appreciate action movies and, of course, be a fan of The Rock’s work.
Did any of the actors stand out?
They were all equally talented but, of course, The Rock stood out.
Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film?
It might have, but I don’t remember any of the songs.
Would you buy this movie when it comes out on DVD?
I don’t buy DVDs because there are so many streaming options. Actually, the only DVD movies I will buy are Star Wars movies. Other than that, I’m not a DVD buyer.
What’s your favorite movie snack?
Salt and buttered popcorn with jalapenos on top.
On a different note, what’s new with you?
June through November are the hurricane season months, so I’ll be keeping an eye on any developing weather from tropical cyclones. On weekends, I continue to hike and bike around Oahu. It’s great exercise and I love the outdoors. I’ve also started a business, Hike Spikes Hawaii, providing traction devices for hikers.
