When my husband told me he wanted us to invest in a waxing franchise, I was a little skeptical. I’d had a Brazilian bikini wax before: NOT pleasant. Inside a tiny room in a hair salon, the wax was too hot, it took forever, and it HURT. So I decided to actually try the European Wax Center (EWC). With its great online reviews and more than 600 locations nationwide, EWC even offers the first wax free, so there wasn’t much to lose in trying.
I easily booked an appointment online while in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on a business trip. When I arrived, they were ready for me. The guest service associate checked me in, my esthetician introduced herself, and we walked into a room that felt very clean and organized. The décor was sophisticated and spotless, glam yet welcoming with crème walls, red accents and exposed brick on the high arches in the hallway. The wax specialist put me at ease, describing each step of the process thoroughly. EWC’s four-step waxing system uses hard wax instead of strips and was practically painless — my business investment light bulb flickered.
What really sealed the deal for me was when I visited an EWC shop in Cincinnati a month later and had another fabulous wax. The experience at both EWC locations was night and day to my memory of my first foray into waxing. I knew that since I had the same top-notch experience at two very different areas of the country, we would get the same training and quality product if we opened EWC here.

Most of us don’t have the time or funds to go often to a spa for a high-end wax experience, but don’t want the DIY method from something purchased at the drugstore, either.
