FilCom Hosts Summer Fun

Filipino for Kids sponsors its 10th annual kaBATan: Filipino for Kids Summer Program at Filipino Community Center in Waipahu.

The event invites elementary students ages 5-12 (of all ethnic backgrounds) to learn about Filipino culture and history during five sessions over the course of three weekends: June 20-21, June 27-28 and July 4.

Activities include language and culture components, as well as games, dances, songs and a summer reading program.

According to Filipino for Kids, past summer session activities included tinikling (folk dance), escrima (martial arts), carinosa (national dance), sipa (former national sport), and alibata and baybayin (Philippine ancient script).

Keiki also learned to make their own halo halo, fold and color jeepney, and create a science project featuring the Mayon volcano. Enrollment is limited to the first 30 students, and deadline to apply is June 15.

Registration is $50 per keiki for all five sessions.
Program T-shirts are an additional $10, and each student will receive a certification of participation upon completion of the program. For more information, email fil4kidshi@gmail.com.
