First Lady Sends Off Grads

Hawaii Pacific University will commemorate its 50th anniversary and 84th commencement at 5 p.m. May 14 at Blaisdell Arena with a keynote address by Hawaii’s first lady Dawn Amano-Ige.

Amano-Ige was born in Ewa, and served as vice principal at Kanoelani Elementary School in Waipahu prior to her appointment as first lady in December.

The Campbell High School alumna received a bachelor’s degree in journalism at University of Hawaii and an MBA from Chaminade University. She worked at Stryker Weiner & Yokota Public Relations and Kapiolani Health Care Systems before pursuing a career in elementary education in 1997.

Eight hundred students will receive associate, baccalaureate and master’s degrees at HPU’s commencement, which also will be streamed online at hpu.edu/livegrad. For more information, visit hpu.edu/graduation.
