Hear Author, Poet At HPU Writers Workshop
It’s not too late for budding authors to register for this year’s Ko‘olau Writers Workshop — deadline to sign up is March 17 for the March 21 seminar.
The 19th annual workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hawaii Pacific University’s Hawaii Loa campus. Attendees will participate in two workshops in topics including fiction, poetry, screenwriting and creative nonfiction.
“The Ko‘olau Writers Workshop is a great opportunity for writers at all levels,” stated HPU associate professor and event organizer Tyler McMahon. “I hope that the friendships and artistic connections made by the attendees will be just as valuable as the lessons they receive.”
Local author and poet Lois-Ann Yamanaka is keynote speaker, and Nicholas Becher, recipient of this year’s James M. Vaughan Award for Poetry, will read his winning poem, Crow. Becher also received $250 cash for taking first in HPU’s long-running poetry contest.
Registration fee is $40 for the general public and $20 for students. For more information and to register, visit koolauwritersworkshop.com.
