Opening Doors Critical To Legislative Success

Central Matters …Rep. Feki Pouha

Aloha Kakou!

First and foremost, I would like to thank the staff of MidWeek for their dedication and hard work in serving Oahu’s communities. I also want to thank my family, friends and all others who are examples to me throughout my life. I stand on the shoulders of giants who have sacrificed for me to be where I am today.

It has been an amazing and exciting start to the 28th legislative session of the state House of Representatives. I want to remind you that my office is your office. Please feel free to stop by and visit us when you can.

Many of you have reached out to share your thoughts and concerns. I truly appreciate your ideas and input. I believe that the true measure of my success will be how representative and reflective I am of our community’s needs. It is a privilege to represent you all, and I thank you for the opportunity to serve.

As the newly elected state representative in a district that stretches from Waialua through Kahuku and Waiahole, I have a tremendous responsibility to fulfill the charge placed on me to represent our great community and state. I need your help and feedback to do that.

I will do my part by listening to our community and performing the responsibilities of a state representative: advocating for the needs of our district, representing our district’s perspective and best interests regarding state laws, mandates and polices; and advocating on general statewide issues and other matters of importance.

I hope to inspire greater civic engagement in our communities to bring solutions to our common challenges. My hope is we can be proud of the Hawaii we pass on to future generations.

I will always have an open-door policy for every member in our district.

I’ll share with you an experience I had this past week.

I noticed some potholes in Kahuku that were getting bigger and bigger, and a community member also made a comment to me about it. So I decided to call the state’s pothole hot-line (536-7852). I called after regular working hours and left a voicemail describing where the potholes were. In less than a week those potholes were patched, and I was happy!

I am not sure if it was my phone call or someone else’s that directly got the potholes fixed. I know that generally people want to do what’s right and prudent, but I also know that if people don’t know any better, they can’t do any better.

So I have a goal to help provide more information for our district to know better and do better. My staff and I are committed to making our community better.
